3 new groups joining in the project - a craft club who meet at a community centre are going to make seagulls, a dog, flowers, maybe a fungi log. One lady had a wonderful idea which was to make a green man - I was thinking he could be just made from lots of individual leaves sewn onto a cotton, stuffed body shape - could be wonderful but need someone to help me do him! Any offers???

The second group is a day centre in Christchurch who want to make a patio garden area and the third group is a day centre in Bournemouth who want to make lots of ivy and vines......... oohhh all so exciting.

And I have just made some lemons for one of the trees. Need to do more work on my knitted wheelbarrow now.

School joining in too and a youth club and Portland and Weymouth via a community development worker.
And the article in Knit Today is published and on the shelves!!

Knitting a cauliflower in memory of her mum

Just been sent this wonderful story:

Diane Blackburn, a participant in this project, who is part of the Sway Ewe-to-Ewe knitting group says:

"My mum, Elsie Moore, would have loved this project - my inheritance from her was a bag of left over balls of wool and since there is a creamy colour and a fluffy green one I can, I hope produce a cauli in her memory
".

Article in Knit Today

We should have an article in Knit Today January Issue which is out December 28th. Sent info off to lots of other mags and newspapers. Dorset/Bournemouth Echo very interested especially when they knew that hundreds of people are already knitting for this project! they are sending a photographer out to take pictures of the work already made.

garden flowers

some of the gorgeous flowers sent in by various people - thanks

THE GARDEN IS GROWING

I have got lots of offers of help from students at the art collage who will help me visit and support groups and will help me design logo/branding etc. One student has already knitted Eve and will knit Adam to keep her company in the garden!

I spent yesterday emailing details out to youth leaders, community workers, older peoples services. Busy!! Trying to updating blog and Ravlery page regularly Done some press releases /marketing etc.

Need some regular help on admin side I think. Any offers?

Establishing good contacts now and have 2 groups of adults with learning disabilities involved. Need to work out what exciting things we can make with knitted squares as that is all some of these groups can make - crazy paving, brick walls, bird houses any other ideas?

I thought i was going to be able to spend lots of time knitting work for project but it doesn't look like it! Hopefully the admin will reduce once it is all up and running and I can just do a few hours maintenance to keep it all going!

Starting to get offers of people who will be on site during the exhibition in May to teach knitting and crochet but will need more if anyone is interested??

I was thinking about setting up a monthly Saturday morning knitting club at Bournemouth library just for this project so people can see the space, meet us, drop off work, collect pattens, wool etc but
maybe it needs to be more frequent?

I am collecting unwanted wool for this project.

The libraries have said they will have collection boxes for the wool too.

About the project....

Blooming Marvellous project members are busy knitting and crocheting for a community knitted project that has begun in October 2010 and will continue on into the Spring when all the work will come together to create a knitted and crocheted 3D garden exhibition in Bournemouth Central Library for 4 weeks in May 2011.

This project has received funding from Bournemouth Libraries, Bournemouth Arts Development and the National Lottery/Arts Council.

The exhibition will travel to other libraries in Bournemouth - plans so far are Charminster, Kinson and we hope to have West Howe, Strouden and Westbourne libraries involved too.
